About

I’m Sam, an accredited psychotherapist and mental health professional, and the founder of One Degree Therapeutic Services. I have extensive experience working across the NHS, trauma services, the third sector, education, and private practice.

My work draws on a broad clinical background and is grounded in thoughtful, ethical, and relational psychotherapy with adults, alongside supervision, consultation, and training for professionals and organisations.

How I work

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, with therapy shaped collaboratively and paced with care. I work relationally, adapting the work to the individual rather than working to a fixed structure or prescriptive model, and placing emphasis on authenticity, choice, and agency.

The work is reflective rather than directive. I pay close attention to emotional safety, attunement, and the relational process, recognising that meaningful change often happens through being understood within relationship and through small, carefully held shifts over time.

Rather than relying on a single way of working, I draw on different approaches thoughtfully and relationally, responding to what emerges and supporting change to develop at a pace that feels both manageable and meaningful.

My work is informed by:

Relational and attachment-based approaches

Including attachment-informed work and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), supporting understanding of how early relationships, developmental experiences, and attachment patterns shape present-day emotional and interpersonal experiences.

Cognitive and trauma-informed approaches

Including CBT-informed and trauma-focused work, supporting insight, emotional regulation, and nervous-system awareness.

Compassion-focused and parts-based approaches

Including Compassion Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), supporting a more compassionate and integrated relationship with inner experience.

Body-aware and integrative elements

Including somatic approaches, ecotherapy, and therapeutic photography, where appropriate, supporting connection beyond thinking alone.

I work flexibly with these approaches, adapting the therapy to your needs and to what unfolds within the therapeutic relationship.

The work is underpinned by a set of values that guide how all work at One Degree Therapeutic Services is approached, across therapy, supervision, consultation, and training.  View the CORE framework (PDF).

Professional Background and Training

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology.

My integrative training is grounded in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), attachment theory, and person-centred principles. These foundations inform how I understand distress, relationships, and change, while allowing flexibility in how the work unfolds.

My training and continuing professional development include:

  • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) – Levels 1 & 2

  • Trauma-Focused CBT

  • Compassion Focused Therapy

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Certificate in Supervision

  • Somatic approaches, including Hanna Somatics

  • Ecotherapy and Therapeutic Photography

  • CATT for PTSD and Complex Trauma

I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure my work remains ethical, reflective, and responsive.

Neuro-Accepting Practice

I also work in a way that is respectful and accepting of neurodivergent ways of thinking, feeling, and relating. This means shaping the therapeutic process around the individual rather than expecting clients to conform to a predetermined way of working, and approaching difference with curiosity rather than pathology.

Working Together

Therapy and additional services at One Degree are delivered thoughtfully, relationally, and work will be carefully paced in accordance to your needs and wants. The work is shaped collaboratively, offering space to explore experiences and patterns in a way that supports deeper understanding, authenticity, and meaningful change over time.
